The Comedown lyrics

caineboyz Dec 11, 2009 at 2:56 am

The whole song is about drug addiction, if you read into it in a different perspective and think about Oli doing drugs then they both connect perfectly. The line 'The skies were once paved with gold, now they rain on us all' is on about drugs, where your high on whatever everything seems better and more chilled out, but then the comedown kicks in and you come back to relality with a kick in the teeth haha, sooo 'Now they rain on us all' is just talking about the comedown and how you feel worse than you did to start with. 'Curtain close, take a bow, think we fooled all of them now' is refering to the fact about hiding being a drug addict, because if you fool people that your not an addict then you can do it without worrying. And to the 'Just like the living dead' bits and so on that's just being about being addicted and needing bigger dosses of it to get you high.

I don't mean any offence, nichorasflyboy. But I'm not sure I can say you know what you're talking about considering you did say the album was about Chelsea's Smile. You may be somewhat right about the rest, as even though I am a huge Bring Me The Horizon fan, I have not seen that interview, but the term "Chelsea Smile", means the same as "Chelsea Grin", or "Glasgow Smile". All these terms refer to a form of torture. (If you've seen Batman - The Dark Night, it's shown on the Joker.) It's when someone makes an inch to two inch insitions in the corners of your mouth, and normally later followed by more torture causing you to scream. And as you scream the insitions can split to your ears. "The only way I'll really smile is if you cut me ear to ear." From the song Chelsea Smile. I believe that in this term Oli is saying it's torture to keep the secret he is hiding, and causes more damage to spill the secret. I realise this is The Comedown, but I figured why not kill two birds with one stone.

To me, its about suicide. He said in an interview that Chelsea's Smile is what the whole cd is about. Something happened to him that he hasn't really told anyone; friends or family. He said he never knew what would drive people to want to kill themselves, but when he got home, all he wanted to do was jump out the window. Most people don't want to kill themselves, but feel the need to, like in the lyrics. Hell, I'd rather feel alive than keep going but not feel it.

The song is about drug addiction, that's clear to me, but it's also about suicide and about a person he had a fight with but he feels sorry although he knows at that moment all words were ment. It's clear that there are different subjects in this song. And regardless of that, everybody can hear anything in music, even if it isn't ment like that, that's the beautiful thing about songs :)
